Mesarski Most [Butcher's Bridge]

Mesarski Most
Connecting the magnificent colonnaded Tržnica covered market with Petkovškovo Nabrežje on the opposite bank, the bridge had been part architect Jože Plečnik's original plans in the 1930s, but was never built due to the outbreak of World War II. Finally opened in July 2010, the bridge remains somewhat controversial due to it's modern style (Plečnik had envisioned something of similar appearence to the adjecent market), as well as the grotesque sculptures by Slovene artist Jakov Brdar that were commissioned to decorate the structure. Soon after the bridge opened, it also became home to the endearing and decidely uncontroversial tradition of couples locking 'love padlocks' along the length of its steel wires.
