Alkatraz Galerija

Founded in 1996 by an informal group of young artists, Alkatraz Gallery has become one of the best 'alternative' galleries in Ljubljana. The building, which is in Metelkova (part of Ljubljana's Hipster scene), used to be the Yugoslavian army's barracks. During Ljubljana's housing shortage, Metelkova became a refuge for artists to live and work on their art. This same essence extends to today, with Alkatraz Gallery showcasing many different artists who often have something radical to say.
