I stayed here for a few nights in July, 2008. I had lived for a couple of years on the other side of the Fontanka Canal, so coming back to STP was quite nostaligic for me. Here I was, next to the Reebok Club, where I swam for almost three years, the nearby bowling alley where I did bowl a couple of times while I lived in STP, from the odd-numbered side of Fontanka, where I hitchhiked back to my place at Fontanka 50 those two years, etc. This B&B is very centrally located, the two women who run it (these were the two women with whom I interacted) are very conscientious, responsible and easygoing. The room I stayed in was cozy, clean and well appointed, and had a window out to Nefimova Street. As for the traffic, frankly, unless you've been living under a rock for the past few years, STP traffic shouldn't be that overwhelming. I slept quite profoundly, and I have had general sleep problems in life. Considering how much lodging costs in Russia's major cities, the Swiss Star should be high on anyone's list of budget places to stay in STP. I would certainly go there again.

Aaron from Prague clearly hasn't stayed here. The Swiss-Star is lovely. Bright, clean, calming decor, new-Ikea everything, art photos on the walls, floors you could eat off of. Simple, comfortable rooms that are perfect hideaways for nesting in this city. Comfiest beds EVER, and Andre and Irina are perfectly warm and helpful. Also, the location is as good as they come (steps from bustling Sennaya Ploshad and an easy walk to Nevsky Prospekt or the 5 Corners), and some rooms have a breathtaking view of the Fontanka.

Quite nice B & B. Clean, modest prices, 5 min walking distance to next metro station, situated at the Fontanka Channel. Somewhat noisy traffic during rush hours. Little 24 h shop right at the corner, kitchen use possible. Would come back again next time.

My husband and I are just back from St Petersburg ( 7 - 12 June) where we stayed at the Swiss Star. We found it very comfortable and the staff were pleasant and helpful. We had a large ensuite room which had a fully tiled shower room and comfy bed. Yes there was street noise if you had the window open but, if like us you had walked around all day, you had no difficulty in sleeping. Breakfast was substantial with coffee and tea available all day. Would not hesitate to use it again.

Don't believe what you read. The ownership might be Swiss, but the attitude and customer service are definately Russian. It is located on very busy streets and the traffic noise will keep you up all night. If you have any concerns that need addressed, the owner is either too busy to help or you are given, "This is Russia" as a response. There are several properties in the city for this price range and I would suggest you look at others before settling for this one.
