Sudak In Your Pocket

Sudak In Your Pocket
Sudak is purely a resort town, which means life there stops in the winter. Even in November or April you’ll find few cafes and hotels open, and most of them will be in the central part of town. In the tourist season all the action shifts to the coast and you’ll find packed beaches, cafes, discos, attractions, lodgings and wine stores, all open late (sometimes till dawn), while the centre of town remains dusty, a little run-down and probably interesting only from a utilitarian point of view (all the supermarkets and the food market are there). We like Sudak in September and October for its natural beauty, its clean sea and the outdoor options the area provides: the multiple plateaus are great for mountain biking tours, the Golitsyn path winds from Novyi Svet around multiple little bays with wild beaches and stunning views and climbers will appreciate rock climbing areas with routes of all levels of difficulty. The tourist attractions in Sudak and the surrounding area include tours of the Genovese fortress, a visit to the Noviy Svet winery, and the Golitsyn grotto (others call it the Shalyapin grotto: the famous bass, Shalyapin, used to give chamber concerts in this space, which is known for its great acoustics).
