MOLODIST FEST

MOLODIST FEST
The greatest movie event in Ukraine

This festival for young directors is Kyiv’s biggest annual cultural event. Established in 1970, Molodist began as a student movie festival for the Department of Cinematography at Kyiv Institute of Dramatic Arts. In its opening year, the festival included only 33 movies. Now every year it presents more than 250 films from all over the world.

Since 1975, the festival has presented full-length feature films by students and young directors eager for the big time. A number of European directors’ careers have, in fact, been launched at the event. Bruce Dumont, after his success at Molodist with “The Jesus Death”, took the Palm d’Or in Cannes for his second work “Mankind”. Alan Berliner triumphed here with “My Life in Pink” and has since won an Oscar.

Molodist 2011 will last for nine days - from 22 to 30 October. Sixty of the best debuts will be selected for the three competition programmes - student films, short films and full-length feature film. The most controversial films, a variety of retrospectives and lots of cinema surprises are waiting for you!

There will be plenty to see in the non-competition programmes as well. It includes more than 10 categories to satisfy every person: Scandinavian Panorama, German Wave, French Connection, Ukrainian Premiers, New Russian Cinema, Polish Documentary & Animation and, moreover, Retrospective of Sandrine Bonnaire

Numerous special events will also be held within the framework of Molodist including unique film screenings, cinematographic events and special presentations. One such event will be the last film directed by Andrei Tarkovsky and a documentary about this great artist.

The Talent Workshop in frame of Molodist International Film Festival will be traditionally held this year. It is an unique opportunity to see and hear well-known directors, actors, artists of various fields of cinema, get answers to actual questions. Lectures and workshops will be held from 23 to 30 October 2011 in the classrooms of cultural educational center "Master Class" (Lavra st, 16).
