Boryspil State International Airport (Аеропорт Бориспіль) is where almost all international flights land and depart from. The smaller Kyiv (Zhulyani) Airport (Аеропорт Київ (Жуляни)) is only 8km from the centre of the city and handles mostly domestic travel. Located 34km east of Kyiv, Boryspil is a small but modern facility. Passport and customs officials do speak English, so don’t worry if you haven’t yet mastered Ukrainian or Russian (see The Basics, Language). Foreigners are supposed to receive registration cards (basically advertising fliers) when they enter Ukraine - save these to present upon leaving the country. All passengers emerge through the same set of sliding doors into a sea of onlookers in the main hall. You will find two currency exchange offices (обмін валют) and an ATM (банкомат) to the left (see The Basics, Money). However, keep in mind taxis usually accept dollars and Euros, plus exchange rates are better in the city centre. There are credit card-operated public telephones (see Keeping in touch) in the main hall and in the post office down the corridor to the left.
Getting to town If you surrender to the waves of taxi drivers offering their services, a 30-45 minute ride to the centre will set you back about 250Hr. For the budget traveller, buses and minivans leave roughly every 30 minutes from in front of the building. They charge 30Hr and will drop you off about an hour later at the Southern Train Station.
