The fourth World Music Festival Kraina Mriy 2007 will this year be presented by the lead singer of the Ukrainian rock group Vopli Vidopliassova, Oleh Skrypka. The purpose of the festival is to popularise ethnic folk art in Ukraine, and to give the opportunity for young musicians to experiment with folk music and create new projects. The festival transforms traditional folk culture into the modern mainstream of fashion and style. Every year more and more Ukrainian musicians take part, working in ethno-rock, etno-jazz, and electronic folk styles.The 2007 festival will last for three days - from 6 to 8 July. Forty bands and performers will star on eight festival stages. Beside local acts there will be artists from all Europe an even from all world. Red Cardell, France; Vilddas, Finland; Cliff Stapleton and Jonathan Shorland, UK; Baba Zula, Turkey; Ivo Papasov & His Wedding Band, Bulgaria; Romano Drom, Hungary; Antonii Pilh, Poland; Thomas&Lizzy Blau, Germany; Mtiebi, Georgia; Intakas, Lithuania; Altanka, Belarus; Mustafa Cevic, Turkey and even such exotic guests as Jam, Iran and Edzun Yechika, Japan. Among the Ukrainian performances will be Roon, Hutsul Kalipso, Stelsi, Drevo, Serpanok, Dykoye Pole, Hurtpravy, Na Dobryden, Buttia, Volodar, Guliay Gorod, Muravskyi Shliakh and many other.The headliner of the festival is all World Music megastar the Arabian singrs Natacha Atlas (from Egypt). And Ukrainian star and initiator of the festival Oleh Skrypka will close the show.The program of the festival includes both afternoon and evening events:
- A folk art fair, with classes in wood carving, wicker work, knitting, embrodery, and the making ancient musical instruments;
- A kids program, with classes in drawing, appliqué work, pottery, folk dancing, kids songs, and musical instruments;- A swing (for the first time at the festival). A huge wooden swing decorated in folk style - will be available for all visitors;- Concerts of autentic folk music and World Music on two different stages;- Choir singing;- Traditional ritual exhibitions in the courtyard of the Ivan Honchar Museum; - Kobzar singing; - A folk dance program;- International food stands. There will also be a chance to learn folk dances, sing songs, play different folk instruments, make handicrafts and try traditional dishes from all over the world. In addition, every evening the main stage will host Ukrainian and International stars from all over the music world.The press centre of the festival will be located at the Ivan Honchar Museum (Sichnevoho Povstannia 29). It will have internet access, fax, and telephone connections. Press conferences will be held every hour. Every 30 minutes the pictures will be uploaded on the festival’s website (www. krainamriy.com).The festival Kraina Mriy 2007 promises to be an exceptionally successful event.
