Hankookkwan means “Korean house”; a fitting name for a new restaurant offering authentic Korean cuisine. Located just outside of centre, 10 minutes walk from the Shuliavs’ka metro station, the restaurant is relatively easy to find. Exit the metro on the north side of Peremohy prosp. and head past Economic University to Zheliabova Street. Though the Korean dishes are not to be missed, the menu also features a delicious selection of Japanese favourites. This is a fine choice for lunch, as seating with a view is easy to find. The private dining hall that accommodates up to 10 is perfect for business luncheons and small dinner parties.

At the present time there are no Japanese dishes (August 2011). They lost their Japanese chef during a period in which the restaurant was temporarily closed. Ordered bulgogi. Instead of getting barbecue we got a beef soup with vermicelli. Wasn't bad but not what we were expecting. Asked for some dishes not so spicy and others very hot and got the reverse of what we were after (although no dish was truly hot according to my palate - my Ukrainian companion thought otherwise). Asked for a seafood soup without egg and the waitress brought us (just two of us) a huge tureen of soup (280 UAH) - - with rice easily enough to feed 4 people; this was after a full meal. Felt slightly taken advantage of when the waitress did not warn us about the quantity and the check came out to over 700 UAH. Not much atmosphere Korean or otherwise although nearly all the clientele are Koreans and the owner and at least one of the wait staff are Korean as well. If up for Korean food not a bad choice although there is also Seoul Restaurant on Gorkogo 160 which although slightly closer to the city center is easier to find on a main road.
