Founded in 1908 the Zoo occupies almost 40ha and houses over 3,000 animals representing about 350 species. Hoofed animals are particularly prominent, and you will also find a decent variety of lions, tigers and bears (oh my!), along with many other species of mammals, birds and a rather interesting terrarium. Alas, the descriptive information is only in Ukrainian, so just make up your own facts. For those with little ones, the Zoo also contains a small amusement park - you can enjoy a great bird’s eye view of your favorite animals from the top of the Ferris wheel. However, sworn activists of animal protection will likely be dismayed at some of the cramped cages with concrete floors that are in sore need of improvement. On the other hand much renovation work is being done now, and although it might be inconvenient for visitors in the short run, we have hope that the animals’ living conditions will be considerably upgraded in the near future.
