Kyiv In Your Pocket
Summer days in Kyiv are hot and the nights are even hotter. (Sorry for the corny opening line, but it's true.) There are in fact so many round-the-clock ways to pass the time in the capital that many visitors become delirious with options. Stroll through one of the city's magnificent parks, visit a concert or one of the unique folk and ethno festivals that highlight the summer schedule, take a river boat tour, go clubbin' until dawn with the world's most beautiful people, ad infinitum. If you're having trouble making up your mind, we suggest heading to one of Kyiv's countless sandy beaches, where the eye-popping scenery and a cool dip in the mighty Dnipro River make for an exceptional escape from the summer heat.
World Cup 2010 has finally arrived! We at In Your Pocket hope you're team made it to South Africa, and just because the Ukrainian national team missed out doesn't mean that locals have forgotten about this glorious event. Quite the contrary. Football is Ukraine's national pastime and Kyiv's pubs will be packed for all the big games. You're sure to find someone in the crowd cheering on your team.
Harnoho lita v Kyevi! Enjoy your summer in Kyiv!

The President is a depressing communist pile with a poor breakfast buffet, rooms in every shade of brown and bathrooms that look like Orbis hotels in Poland in 1996. It's not value for money. If you have to stay at a socialist relic, pick the Rus n[...]
My favourite is actually at Druzhby Narodov 25B. This location is not special but it gets a nice mix of people and is not as crowded as in Podol. The grilled vegetable appetizer is great!![...]
Really, Volodymyr? It's a sign provincialism to insist on your own interpretation, since names of cities have varied over the years and the world doesn't march to your drum. Prague is Praha in Czech, Warsaw is Warszawa in Polish, but I suppose these[...]
As my knowledge about the country was mainly sourcing from books and some people telling me about it, I was very happy to find an excursion bureau giving me a deep insight and very good advice about the how and when and where in the Ukraine. I enjoy[...]
No argument from me, but there's the whole world out there that uses Kiev. I've got an atlas from the 1950's that uses Kiev. But, hey, if you want us to use Kyiv, then Kyiv it is. Whatever you call it, it's still one of my favorite destinations.[...]
Kyiv. Simply because, if the representatives of the people say it's capital is to be called Kyiv, then it is to be called Kyiv. Period. Anything else is a deliberate show of disrespect.[...]
