If you only have time to visit one museum in Odesa, this is the one to visit. Paintings, sculptures and elegant ornaments from some of art history’s most famous masters are on display. If the museum’s name sounds familiar, you probably heard the tragic news. This was the sight of one of the most lucrative art heists in recent history. On July 30, 2008 Caravaggio’s ‘Taking of the Christ’, a painting valued at 100 million dollars, disappeared without a trace. Unfortunately, Ukraine is still working on modernizing its security systems, so run don’t walk to this fascinating museum before all the good painting are gone.
