Fethija Mosque

Bosanska bb     more than a year ago
Look closely and you’ll see that there is more to the Fethija Mosque than immediately meets this eye. The minaret is another example of Islamic elegance, but the rest of the building doesn’t follow the usual architectural style expected of a mosque. That is because this house of worship started out as a Catholic church, built in 1266 and thought to be the oldest Gothic building in the country. It was transformed into a mosque following the Ottoman conquest in 1592. The basement is home to a number of tombs, although the needed renovation work means these aren’t available for tourists to explore.
