At June 11th 1945 Schiermonnikoog was liberated from the Nazis. Exactly 64 years later Bunkermuseum Schlei opened its door again, but now as a museum. Fortunately the German oppressors are nowhere around, nowadays this colossal bunker complex is filled with a great variation of historical artefacts from World War II. Well kept Schlei, the German name for a certain fish, was part of the Atlantic Wall and basically was an extensive system of coastal fortification. Stretching from Spain to Scandinavia. In many of these countries only ruins of the wall exist, or have fallen into the ocean. Luckily the part of the wall on Schiermonnikoog is still in good shape and actually could be used tomorrow in another war.
