Banja Luka

Festivals in Banja Luka

more than a year ago
There is always something going on in Banja Luka all year round, but probably the best time to catch a festival or two is during the summer, where all citizens and tourists bundle in the streets and along the Vrbas River day and night.

Banja Luka is most renowned for its various music festivals that range from rock, reggae, electronica and of course Balkan traditional music where bands and musicians come together to play outdoors usually within the grounds of the magnificent fortress.  One not to miss is the Neofest International Peace Festival
in June that displays three stages of fusion, funk, reggae and hip hop bands and also a DJ stage where everyone enjoys the warm summer nights dancing along the ruins of the Castle.  The Jazzlook Festival in October celebrates the art of jazz and blues in various bars and clubs tucked away in the city.  It is a perfect opportunity to witness the flair of international jazz musicians from around the world.

The celebration of films, filmmakers, animators and avant garde is presented in various film festivals that are represented throughout the year.  The Banja Luka International Film Festival is the largest film festival in Republika Srpska and in second place in Bosnia and Herzegovina after theInternational Film Festival in Sarajevo.  However, the next festival is already scheduled for April 2010.  Other few smaller and interesting film festivals to catch are the Kratkofil International Short Film Festival in June and International Animation Film Festival in May.  Apart from an exciting array of films to watch from film masters around the globe, one can also sit in on a few workshops and lectures conducted in English from the masters themselves.
