International Garden Festival 2017

22 May 2017

Garden and design fans are in for a treat this year in Berlin, with the International Garden Festival (IGA) taking place in the hilly landscape around the Kienberg, amidst the prefabricated housing estates of the eastern Marzahn district. Two million visitors are expected this year.
Reached in just 30 minutes on the U5 from Alexanderplatz plus a 5-minute glide in a new 1,5km cableway, visitors can enjoy a variety of garden styles, landscapes and attractions. The existing Gardens of the World park has been incorporated in the expanded festival area; there's a quaint English garden, modern 'garden cabinets' by landscape designers from South African, Brazil, Chile, China and elsewhere, and works by ten artists.
Great views across Berlin can be had from the Wolkenhain platform. Among four restaurants there's the Warung Bali serving Indonesian delicacies and snacks, and a Chinese café with special Asian sweets. Smartphone users can download the IGA-Guide Berlin app, which includes an audiotour and a complete overview of concerts and other special events.
