Deutsche Oper Highlights
Premiered in Monte Carlo in 1917, Puccini's La Rondine avoids the usual operatic structure, choosing instead for three acts, two soprano tenor pairs and the use of dances like the waltz. In the story, a poet prophesies to Magda that she will fly like a swallow, and soon she falls in love with Ruggero, a friend of the banker Rambaldo, her lover. She splits with Rambaldo but ends up in a boring marriage with Ruggero, keeping her past life a secret. In German, with English surtitles.
