Is there anything better than ice cream on a hot summer day? We think not!
We may know it as ice cream but these days the word in everyone's mouth is gelato. Is it fancier - is it more European? Is there an actual difference? Apparently there is! Gelato uses less cream and more milk, less sugar, no egg yolks and generally is lower in fat. So that's a good reason to not miss out on summer's favourite temptation ;-)
Around Sofia you will find plenty of gelaterias and ice cream parlours  where you can stop by to pick up a waffle cone or paper cup, laden with delicious refreshing flavours as you wander around town, or enjoy a larger cup or in-house speciality ice cream dessert at one of their tables. Refreshing sorbets offer plenty of choice also for vegans.
Worth bearing in mind!During the hot summer days, most people tend to avoid the small pavement ice cream stalls serving scoops from big tubs for fear of catching a tummy bug.
