Swiss doctor Arnold Rikli was one of the first people to recognise the value and health benefits of Bled's climate and location. He developed his own healing methods based on the effects of light, air and water, and went on to found the Natural Health Institute in 1855. To commemorate the good doctor's contributions both to health and tourism in Bled, a recreational walk to Straža Hill is held every July and has been a popular event for over 20 years. The starting point is the Rikli Balance Hotel at 07:00. In keeping with Rikli’s rigorous regime, participants are encouraged to wear light-coloured, airy clothes, straw hats and bare feet.
