Bihać

5 Must-Try Dishes in Bihać

more than a year ago
Bosnia & Hercegovina is a place for people with a big appetite. That is particularly true if you happen to be a carnivore, but there is plenty more to the food of this beautiful country than delicious, succulent, toothsome, oh lord we’ve dribbled on the keyboard grilled meat. You should eat everything you can find on a menu in BiH, but pay special attention to these traditional beauties.

Ćevapi

Where else to start? We’ve long lost count of how many times we’ve eaten ćevapi, but we are certain that the answer is ‘not enough times’. These grilled mince meat beauties are a little different depending on where you are in the country, with a mixture of beef and lamb winning out here.

Sarma

Oh sarma, we don’t deserve you. Little rolls of meat and rice packaged in pickled cabbage leaves, sarma is one of the best things about the Balkans. Full stop.

Begova čorba

Another hangover from the Ottoman years (yes, that is a thinly veiled joke), the Bey’s Stew is a thick soup made of meat and vegetables, perfect winter food but pretty great in the summer too.

Bosanski Lonac

The chefs of Bihać know exactly what they are doing when it comes to stews, a fact perfectly displayed in the magnificent Bosanski Lonac. Essentially a Bosnian Pot, this is a lot of meat and potatoes cooked to perfection in a ceramic pot.

Punjena paprika

An old staple all across the region, few Bosnian meals are complete without at least one side dish of stuffed peppers. Don’t miss out.
