Bucharest

Die Deutsche Kneipe

  Str. Stockholm 9 ,   Dorobanti          (+4) 021 233 94 62     more than a year ago

This place has remained more or less unchanged in 22 years (it opened in 1996), and that's just the way that we and all the other happy regulars like it. Serving giant portions of great German sausages (all made on the premises) as well as huge pork knuckles, seriously good kraut and a Hunter Schnitzel the size of the Bismarck it also has a couple of cracking German beers on draught. Service comes with a smile from the family team who own and run the place, and you will usually need a reservation at weekends. Tuesday and Thursday there's a business lunch: one of the best value feeds in the city. On sunny days head for the beer garden, which comes complete with one of those German beer flagpole things. Brilliant.

I have been there many times. The atmosphere is great if you can tolerate the smoke from all the cigarettes. The food was , on a scale from 0-10, with 10 being the highest; probably 5-6 and even 7 depending on what you order. You cannot go wrong with Schnitzel. The meats/sausages are COOKED there, but certainly not MADE there. The beer is always fresh. As is usually the case, the patrons make or break any restaurant. They enjoy a very loyal and eclectic clientele.

I had never heard of this place. A classmate from Perry Hall Class of 1975 mentioned this on FaceBook and so I googled it to see what it is. Sausages made on the premises!!! sounds good.

This is one of our families most favorite restaurants in Bucharest. The atmosphere is cozy and the food is great!

I was with them when they started back in the 90´s and awas last5 ther in summer 2008 and I always feel like i m at home. I love their food and I can only say that i tis always freh prepared. Why would so many germans who live in Bucharest come there on regular bases if the food would be as bad as Deborah wrote.

Given I've grown up in upper Bavaria and thus might be a bit of a snob, but I was appalled. I had the pork leg when I was there. Our theory was that it must have been deep frozen, they jugged it into the microwave and then deep fried it, otherwise you wouldn't get a crsipy skin with the fat layer underneath being fully intact (not melted). Except for a beer in the garden on a summer night, I surely will never go near their food ever again.

It's great. We were here last night (friday October 10) and the sausages were as good as ever. It was even warm enough to sit outside. Every time we come to Bucharest we come here, it is the best of places.
