Plovdiv

Our Favourite Places in the Old Town

more than a year ago
If you only have time to see one thing in Plovdiv then it has to be the Old Town, not least because it combines both the unique atmosphere of cobbled streets lined with 150-year-old beautifully painted residences but also because this is where the city's best preserved Roman monument lies: the Ancient Theatre.

Ulitsa Saborna is by far the most popular street, carving its way through the Old Town from Ploshtad Dzhumaya right up to Nebet Tepe. Many of the museum houses are on this street as are a plentiful supply of antique shops. The whole street has been restored and repaired, whereas off the beaten track you can still find many houses looking somewhat delapidated.

Whichever route you take, you are bound to find yourself doubling back and walking the same stretch more than once.
