Visiting Vatican City

more than a year ago
Vatican City, the Papal residence, is an independent state located in Rome. It occupies a large area in eastern and central Italy. The seat of the Roman Catholic Church, Vatican City is the smallest country in the world. It is governed as an absolute monarchy with the pope at its head. The Pope lives in the Apostolic Palace, which is open to the public, so you can enjoy an incredible visit to the official residence of the pope. When in the Eternal City, it isn’t hard to get to Vatican City, because all means of transportation connect with the small country.

There’re many fascinating attractions to visit in Vatican City, including the Vatican Gardens (an enchanted place, a system of big and small gardens, bunny enclosure, fish pool, and fountain;) the Vatican Museums (many artworks by the greatest Italian art masters can be found in the Vatican Museums, including Caravaggio, Titian, Raphael, and Leonardo;) St. Peter’s Basilica (one of the world’s largest churches;) and St. Peter’s Square (one of the world’s most famous squares).

Vatican City is one of the most memorable religious sites to visit in Rome (its unique treasures and artifacts have immeasurable religious and historical significance.) It is the most popular tourist destination in Rome and is almost always busy. So, if you are tight in time, consider Tuesday or Thursday as your best bets and book your tickets in advance.

You can either access the Vatican website itself, or book a private tour with a skip-the-line option. Entry to the Vatican Gardens, St. Peter's Basilica, the Sistine Chapel, and the Vatican Museums is permitted only to those who are dressed appropriately. Hats, miniskirts, shorts, and sleeveless dresses/shirts/blouses aren’t allowed. So, respect the rules and cover your shoulders and knees before heading to the smallest country in the world.
