Top 5 Souvenirs from Liverpool

more than a year ago
Don’t forget to pick up a souvenir or five when in Liverpool, mementos to remind you of your time in the centre of the creative world. Liverpool is a unique place, a city that has plenty to differentiate it from its neighbours, and with that comes plenty of souvenirs that are only available from this little slice of the planet. Here are five souvenirs you should keep an eye out for in Liverpool.

Beatles Memorabilia

Many people flock to Liverpool in search of all things Fab 4, and the iconic band are impossible to avoid when in the city. There are plenty of Beatles souvenirs you can pick up to take home, even if you aren’t a fan of Paul, John, Ringo and George, from records to books via tat and wacky wig and glasses combos.

Road Signs

Sticking with The Beatles, sort of, road signs seem to be a popular Liverpool souvenir. We don’t mean actual road signs (although we did wake up with a Belmont Road sign in our garden once), more the personalised and glammed up versions you find in souvenir shops. Penny Lane, Strawberry Field, Anfield Road, Goodison Road — there are plenty of famous streets in this famous city.

Superlambanana

We do miss the city being full of these glorious sculptures, but the memory lives on in the shape of souvenirs, toys, models and the rest. The superlambananas were made to warn against the dangers of genetic modification (or the joys of portmanteaus, it is difficult to tell), but just the one remains in the city today. Pick up a mini version to sit on your mantelpiece.

Football Merchandise

Liverpool is football mad. An understatement? No, that is whatever comes below an understatement. The city is divided between red and blue, and it won’t take long to work out what side of the fence your taxi driver is on. The city is awash with football merchandise as a result, from replica shirts to scarves. You can even get a Jan Molby bobble head, which is alright by us.

Liver Birds

The mythical Liver bird is the symbol of the city, a legendary bird that can be seen all around the city in a variety of ways. Most souvenir shops will sell products with the bird tacked on in some form or another, but we’re all about the miniature models ourselves. They come in all colours, but you should probably get one red and one blue one, just to be safe.
