Exploring Montparnasse

more than a year ago
Located in the heart of the 14th Arrondissement, the Montparnasse neighbourhood was home to a lively arts and literature scene in the 1920s. Today, the neighbourhood also has a lot to offer residents and tourists alike. From the train station called Gare Montparnasse to the famous Parisian tower called the Tour Montparnasse, discover the Montparnasse neighbourhood on your trip to Paris.

Without futher adieu, here is a list of things to do in Montparnasse:

Visit the Catacombs of Paris (a bones-filled labyrinth)

Dating back to the late 18th century, the Catacombs of Paris are underground ossuaries that hold the bones of about six million Parisians. Just don’t forget to bring a jacket, as it can get a little cold underground.

Climb to the top of the Montparnasse Tower

One of the tallest skyscrapers in France, the Montparnasse Tower is an office building with about 5,000 people working in the offices located in the tower. On the 56th floor of the building, you will find a beautiful restaurant offering a unique, breathtaking view over Paris.

Visit Stade Charléty

With 20,000 seats, Stade Charléty is the second largest multi-sport arena in the city. Visit the stadium, hosting tennis, football, squash and rugby matches.

Walk down La rue de la Gaîté

This lively street is associated with bars, cafés, restaurants, theatres, dance halls, cabarets, and anything to do with night-time entertainment. The street is buzzing with excitement and entertainment for an unforgettable night out in the City of Lights.

Visit the Musée Bourdelle

Even if you aren’t a passionate art lover, you should visit the Musée Bourdelle in the Montparnasse neighbourhood. The museum houses an impressive collection of Antoine Bourdelle's plaster, marble and bronze works. It is one of the few museums in the city that you can visit for free.
