Top 5 Souvenirs from Liechtenstein

more than a year ago
Load up the credit cards and bring those empty shopping bags, because Vaduz is here to take all of your money. Okay, we kid, the capital of mighty Liechtenstein isn’t exactly Milan when it comes to frenzied retail therapy, but there are still some delights here that will catch your eye. Not everyone gets to visit the third smallest country in Europe, and you’ll want to buy a souvenir to smugly remind everyone of your nomadic vagabonding.

Postage Stamp

One of the most sought after postage stamps on the planet, we’ll have you know. Collecting stamps might have a bit of a nerdy reputation, but where better to start your collection than these bad boys? 2020 will be the 100th anniversary of Liechtenstein’s postal independence, and we can think of no better way to celebrate than by picking up a little piece of history.

Wine

Liechtenstein might be about the size of a postage stamp (chortle chortle), but you don’t need masses of land to cultivate some seriously good wine. You do need some land, not masses but still some, and Liechtenstein has carved itself a reputation for being a place that takes wine very seriously — quality over quantity and all that. Take a tour of the Royal Family’s own wine cellars and pick up some seriously good plonk at the end of it.

Chocolate

You’re in milk country now, make no mistake about that. What is the best use for milk? Chocolate, obviously. Maybe the whole ‘feeding babies’ thing too, but maybe we could feed them chocolate? Liechtenstein makes some pretty good chocolate, and we’re always looking for an excuse to sample some new bars. Everyone wins, especially us. Keep an eye out for the luxuriously elegant Valle Dulcis chocolates.

Snow Globe

We get far more excited about tourist tat than most, we’re happy to admit that, but there is something about a snow globe that just feels right when it comes to Liechtenstein. This is an adorable mountainous place after all. Buy yourself a Liechtenstein-themed snow globe and get ready to spend countless days whistling looking at it from the comfort of your own couch.

False Teeth

You’ll have to stump up a pretty penny for these, but anyone looking to add a bit of glitz to their smile is in luck in Liechtenstein. The country is home to the world’s leading manufacturer of false teeth, the impressively productive Ivoclar Vivadent. The company made its start in 1920s Zurich but is now based in Schaan (the largest town in Liechtenstein, believe it or not), shipping new gnashers to more than 120 countries worldwide. The place to go for a new smile, or something along those lines.
