Ohrid, Struga & Prespa

Galičica National Park

more than a year ago
Named after the mountain that straddles both North Macedonia and neighbouring Albania, the Galičica National Park has been protected since 1958—and for good reason. Bursting with rare and beautiful species of both flora and fauna and covering an area of just under 230 square kilometres, as well as offering a combined view of Lake Ohrid and Lake Prespa from the top, the park is a wonderful place for outdoor types, providing everything from hiking to rock climbing to paragliding to winter sports. Many of the places listed in this guide can provide all the detailed information necessary for spending time in the park, and do remember to only choose experienced professionals. During the summer it’s also possible to drive from Resen to Ohrid through the park via a long and winding road to the small Orthodox shrine at the top, although try to find out if the road’s open, as it’s often blocked by snow at the top with no warnings on road until you reach the snowdrifts.
