This vibrant city has had its fair share of movie moments. If you fancy some ‘Set Jetting’ while you’re here, then fasten your seat belts and prepare for take off.

Trainspotting, Heavenly Pursuit, Cloud Atlas, Fast and Furious 6, Ae Fond Kiss, Carla's Song, Patrick Melrose  Gregory's Girl, The Wife, The House of Mirth, World War Z, Ratcatcher, Restless Natives,  and Outlaw King are just a taster of the movies and series filmed in Glasgow.

Trainspotting (1996), although set in Edinburgh, was mainly filmed in Glasgow. Renton, the main character, and his best friend, Sickboy, debate Sean Connery movies and Renton shoots the dog with an air rifle at Rouken Glen Park in the south side. Go to Cafe D' Jaconelli at 570 Maryhill Road if you want to sit in the booth where Renton and his friend Spud meet before Spud's unforgettable job interview.
The pub where Begbie, played by Robert Carlyle, throws the glass over the balcony and then gets into a fight was set in the Crosslands at 182 Queen Margaret Drive in the West End, just down the street from the Botanic Gardens. Go to the bottom of Byres Road in Partick and look at the new trendy flats if you want to see where Renton met Diane. Back then it was the nightclub Volcano, clearly now demolished... imagination is needed at this point.

And who could forget Gregory's Girl (1981)? This classic was actually shot in Cumbernauld, a new town just outside Glasgow. But if you’re a fan, getting there isn’t a problem. Abronhill High School was used as the school in the story.

Many of the scenes from The House of Mirth (2000), starring Gillian Anderson and Dan Aykroyd, were filmed in the West End. Stroll down Hillhead's Kersland Street whose red sandstone tenements were transformed into a turn-of-the-century New York brownstone street scene. Easy to see why.

And if it’s the TV phenomenonthat is Taggart (1983-2010) you’re into, the locations are too many to mention. Just have a walk around the city day or night and you are in a scene from this worldwide hit. Soak it up. ‘There’s been a muhrrrder!’

Another blockbuster that was partly filmed in Glasgow is Cloud Atlas (2012), which is based on David Mitchell's novel of the same name. Luisa Rey, played by Halle Berry, avoids captivity on the junction of George Street, which serves as the replica of San Fransisco in 1973. An eager eye can also spot the University of Glasgow, Anchor Lane and Douglas Street on the big screen.

Meg Wolitzer's best selling book The Wife (2003) was also made into a film with the same title (2017), partly, on Glasgow's streets. Glenn Close and Christian Slater, playing Joan Castleman and Nathanial Bone, filmed at Hutcheson's Hall. In this film, Glasgow is being transformed into Stockholm.

Yet again being transformed into another city, George Square and its surrounding streets appear in Brad Pitt's World War Z (2013). This time around Glasgow is being portrayed as Philadelphia. Can you recognize it in this clip

Fast and Furious graced Glasgow twice in the last couple of years. Fast and Furious 6 (2013) and Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw both filmed scenes in Glasgow. Car chases seen in Fast and Furious 6 took place in the Boomielaw area and the city's financial district.
Get your eagle eyes on to spot the City Chamber's archway on John Street in the trailer for the latest Fast and Furious instalment. The film will be released on 2 August 2019 in the UK.

Described as a "love letter to Scotland" by producer Gillian Berrie in an interview with Variety, it comes as no surprise that Glasgow's beautiful scenery was also used as a filming location for the movie Outlaw King (2018). The film stars Chris Pine, who plays Robert de Bruce, was also spotted on location in Glasgow. Featured in the film are the Glasgow Cathedral and Glasgow University. You can find more about the filming locations all over Scotland here.

Besides movies, there are also several shows that were filmed in Glasgow. One of these is the Sky Atlantic drama Patrick Melrose (2018), which is based on a five-novel series by Edward St Aubyn. For this series, Glasgow doubles as New York in the 1980s. If you want to follow in Benedict Cumberbatch's footsteps, who plays the main character, Patrick Melrose, you can find the five-star hotel Patrick stays in in Manhattan on 95 Bothwell Street. Further down the road at 100 Bothwell Street is the hotel he stays in later on in the show. Other locations seen in the series include Cochrane Street, St Vincent Street, West George Lane, Sauchiehall Lane, the restaurant Rogano, the Barras and Hogarth Park

There is no way an article like this can be written without mentioning Outlander (since 2014). The historical drama takes place in Scotland and over the years Glasgow was used as a filming location several times. Frank, played by Tobias Menzies, proposed to Claire, Caitriona Balfe on George Square. Walking through Kelvingrove Park you can follow Claire's footsteps as she walks through Boston Park. From there you can hop on right over to Glasgow University which doubles as Harvard University in the series. Also in the West End, you can find Dowanhill Street which was also used to portray Boston. Pollock Country Park can also be spotted in season one and two. You can follow the journey of Claire and Jamie via VisitScotland.
