Best Breakfast & Brunch Spots in Malaga

more than a year ago
Breakfast is a fluid term in Andalusia. Getting up at the crack of dawn and smashing down some eggs isn’t really how things are done here — take your time and savour every last moment in bed. Breakfast will bleed into brunch and there’s nothing wrong with that, this is the most important meal of the day after all, and Málaga has plenty to get the taste buds going as the morning stretches on.

Santa Canela

All boxes ticked. A sunshine terrace accentuated by some seriously friendly service, Santa Canela is a great place to visit no matter the time of day. The espresso is faultless, and there are plenty of breakfast options for the hungry. Smoothies, teas, craft beers and more also fill the menu, and the regular coffee tasting sessions are a big hit.

Julia Bakery

Julia Bakery eschews the Andalusian attitude in favour of a more Viennese feel, with all the charm of that famous Central European coffee scene transported to the Mediterranean. The breakfast options are plentiful no matter your morning palate, although we do struggle to turn down a Full English.

Casa Aranda

You can’t argue with tenure. Casa Aranda has been serving the people of Málaga for close to a century at this point and might take the honour of being the city’s most famous churrería. It is found in a narrow alley not far from the beautiful market so keep your eyes open, seek it out and get ready for some seriously good churros.

El Mortal

Food on the Costa del Sol might be a bit on the heavy side more often than not, but more and more places like El Mortal are popping up to provide something a little healthier. A popular breakfast place on the Plaza Enrique García-Herrera, El Mortal also offer tapas throughout the day.

Café con Libros

Coffee and books — is there a better combination on the planet? We’re going to vote ‘no’ on that one, so of course we’re going to love Café con Libros. The terrace is plenty pleasant but we’re all about the interior, with creativity and history practically dripping from the walls. The coffee is great too, making this an excellent spot for creative caffeine hounds.
