Live music is always on the verge of breaking out in Málaga — it is just that sort of place. This is a lively town and then some, but a number of venues are more reliable than most when it comes to putting on excellent live performances by seriously talented musicians of all genres. Rock, pop, traditional, jazz, singer-songwriter and all the rest, it is all going on here.
Open since 1991, ZZ Pub is about as down to earth as Málaga gets. This is a boozing hole, make no mistake about it, a delightful dive bar with plenty of live music on the calendar. This is the sort of place we try to find out in every city we cover, as the almost universal familiarity of it all is a great way to get into a city. ZZ Pub ticks so many of our boxes.
Once one of the most popular live music venues in the city, Velvet Club closed its doors in 2018, only to be resurrected like a phoenix just a year later. Now more of a pub and nightclub than a straight ahead music venue, it remains a great place to check out bands or simply dance the night away.
