Best Tapas Restaurants in Malaga

more than a year ago
You’re in Andalusia, so you’re going to be eating plenty of tapas. It doesn’t get much more enjoyable actually, letting the magic of Málaga sweep over you as a selection of small dishes are passed around a most social manner. Where to eat tapas in Málaga? The easy answer is ‘everywhere’, but these places deserve a little more attention.

Uvedoble

‘Traditional yet modern’ is objectively the most meaningless phrase in all of modern day tourism, but few places tick both boxes simultaneously like Uvedoble. A modern tapas bar that is positively enamoured with old-fashioned techniques, this city centre tavern offers an energetic atmosphere alongside abstract art, all fuelled by some of the best tapas in the city.

Marisquería Casa Vicente

Málaga is one of the most important port cities in Europe, so you’d expect some pretty good seafood, right? Of course you would, and you’d be right in your assumption. Marisquería Casa Vicente is one of our favourites on that front, a stunning little tapas bar just a short walk from the central market.

Gorki

While there are plenty of old-fashioned tapas joints in Málaga, Gorki tops the list when it comes to a more modern take on the theme. It isn’t as shiny as that description suggests though, this is still wine-barrel table country after all, but there is a professional sheen that adds another layer to some great tapas and a massively enjoyable environment.

La Tranca

Now we’re talking. This is a splendidly authentic tapas bar in the heart of Málaga, a bustling restaurant with social dishes flying out of the kitchen and old-timey posters covering every inch of space on the walls. Plenty of people visit La Tranca simply for the wine and the atmosphere, but we can’t recommend enough getting a few bites to eat too.

Mesón Mariano

We’ve said it before, we’ll say it again — eat where the locals do. It is generally a fine travel rule to follow, and disciples of the idea must seek out Mesón Mariano in Málaga. The menu is varied to say the least, with plenty of local delicacies begging to be ordered and devoured. Sit at the bar for the full experience.
