Wine is the alcoholic beverage most associated with Spain in general, and Navarre makes no exception. Pamplona is located near the area where the best Spanish wine is produced – Rioja. Navarrese types do not fall far behind. You can taste a wide spectrum of sorts and flavours. Take at least a bottle home with you.
 
There is a significant variety of local red wines of the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot types. The region is traditionally linked with rosé wine (rosado) - Garnacha tops the list of examples. Tempranillo is another trademark of Pamplona wine industry.
 
If you want to drink like a local, you might try kalimotxo. It is made by mixing wine and cola. As weird as it sounds, people in Pamplona even start it before noon, especially during the San Fermin week. People drink lots of cider too.
 
Strong brandies are not that typical for Navarre. Still, there is this unique liqueur called Pacharan (Patxaran) with alcohol volume around 25 to 30 percent which is served during (or after) lunch or dinner as a digestif.
 
Well, a recent survey actually shows that Spanish prefer drinking more beer than wine. It might not be really the case with Pamplona, yet you can find a fantastic array of locally produced craft beers. You can buy in the shops or at places like Txirintxa near the bull-ring. Here’s a hint – look for a bar that has Cerveceria in the name (like Cerveceria La Estafeta, for example). It means “brewery,” so you know that the beer is produced on the spot or at least by the people who run the place.
