Malaga Day Trips: Things to do in Marbella

more than a year ago
Málaga might be the capital of the Costa del Sol, but it must give way to Marbella when it comes to the best-known and most popular town on the coast. Marbella sits just 60km down the coast from Málaga and has a huge amount to offer as a standalone destination, although we’re going to look at it from a day-trip point of view.

FIRST OF ALL, HOW TO get there?

Pretty much any bus going south from Málaga will go through Marbella, and the journey takes an hour or so.
Alternatively, keep an eye on the many ride share websites for some discounts. The bus station is 2km outside the centre, a 20-minute walk from the Old Town.

WHAT TO SEE AND DO?

Well, most people who make the trip to Marbella will spend their days gazing at the sea from the comfort of the beach. If you’re after the tranquility of the Spanish seaside, you’re in luck, but culture vultures will also find plenty to do.

Plaza de los Naranjos

is the old cultural centre, a charming old town full of shops, bars, restaurants and the rest.

Avenue del Mar

is a cracker of a street in the old town, with a number of surreal Dali statues dotted around.

MARBELLA

is a great town for relaxation, but it also happens to be a real culinary centre in the Costa del Sol.

Dani Garcia Restaurant  is a legendary fine dining spot that has earned three Michelin Stars over the years, but 2019 will be its final year in operation. It isn’t cheap, but it certainly is special.

If you’re looking for tapas, you can’t go wrong with Taberna la Niña del Pisto.

The abundance of international tourists also ensures a healthy nightlife scene, although we tend to eschew the bars and clubs in favour of the Noisy Budgie Brewery.

JUST AN HOUR AWAY

from Málaga, Marbella is an oasis of glistening beaches and marvellous serenity, buttressed by a vibrant nightlife and some of the best food on the Costa del Sol. A fabulous day-trip and then some.
