Málaga is a marvellous place for foodies, be they carnivore, herbivore, omnivore, whatever. It all wins. Which restaurants and tapas bars sit at the top of the table when it comes to meat-free magnificence? These are some of our favourites, although you can generally find decent vegetarian food in most reputable spots.
The premier vegetarian joint in Málaga, Cañadú has a menu packed with meat-free goodness from beginning to end, with plenty of vegan and gluten-free options in there as well. Everything is mighty affordable too, with mains ranging between €7 and €11. Don’t even think about skipping dessert — these are some of the finest sweets in town.
Yeah, the name is a bit of a mouthful, but you don’t have to eat the moniker. El Vegetariano de la Alcazabilla is a fabulous vegetarian restaurant in the city, one that bucks the carnivorous tendencies of the locals and does plenty of good business all day long. Sit on the terrace or take a seat at the bar and go from there, with the daily menu a consistently good option.
A right little charmer this one. El Calafete offers vegetarian food from all around the world with a clear focus on the Mediterranean and the Middle East, which is absolutely fine by us. The daily specials are a great affordable option.
Vegan-té La Siria is all about vegan dishes from the Arabic world, keeping Málaga’s long history alive through cuisine and culture. The cakes are quite special indeed, and food is also available for takeaway. We recommend sitting in though, to get a good feel for the splendid atmosphere. Animals are also allowed.
Vegan pizza isn’t the easiest thing to find in Málaga, but La Fainá is here to save the day. The pizza menu is extensive and excellent, with a separate vegan menu for those looking to avoid any and all living input. Málaga isn’t exactly known for its pizza, but La Fainá is fantastic.
