Just half an hour away from Gothenburg, you will find the dream town of everyone who's not a morning person, yet is trapped in the capitalist society and its routines. The town's name is Alingsås, and it's the Swedish capital of fika (coffee).
The city came to be when the inhabitants of another city, known as Nya Lödöse (New Lödöse) where left homeless after the Danish troops burned their city to the ground. The city was granted its Royal Charter in 1619, 2 years before Gothenburg. Somewhere between this period and today they gained popularity for their fika. Today there are 26 different types of fika in Alingsås.
Some of the most important sights in Alingsås include: Gräfsnäs castle, Nolhaga Slott, Steamboat Herbert and Anten-Gräfsnäs Railroad. Gräfsnäs castle is one of the most famous caste ruins in the area. The site includes a park, a playground for the kids, a café and a beach. The beautiful 19th-century castle Nolhaga Slott has a lot of fun activities to offer, including the beautiful park, small zoo and aqualand with a spa. Steamboat Herbert can take you to the lake Mjörn and the island Risön, the place that has its own national anthem and a president. Anten-Gräfsnäs Railroad is 12 km long site worth checking out, there is also a museum a at the station.
