Identity tends to be a tricky topic to both discuss and understand no matter where one is, but in certain corners of the world this can be doubly true. The Free City of Danzig (1920-1939), and its residents who remained in the newly named Gdansk following the war, is one such case. This exhibition at the Gdansk Museum tells the unique story of these Danzigers - Poles, Kashubians, Germans and others - and the memory that remains of their post-war fate. Curators invited artists to help create individual exhibits, which combine historical documents and artifacts into new works of contemporary art. A must-visit for anyone interested in understanding this complicated period and the effect it had on the local people.
