Following the strikes Lech Wałęsa was re-instated and went back to work as an electrician, repairing small electrical engines. His workshop has been re-created in exactly the same building where he and his workmates spent their days. With Walęsa now both a hero and closely watched man the panes in the windows were changed to smoked glass to stop people looking in at the Solidarity leader and eventual Nobel Prize winner. There is a video showing the times including a clip where the security officers following Wałęsa try to get into a vehicle with him. Life in the public eye in communist Poland was clearly no fun.
