30 years have passed since the beginning of Poland's political transformation. Granted, most changes were for the better, but it is important to mention those that ultimately altered the character of old Poland. Small movie theatres were an essential fixture in every Polish city. Certainly not places to see the latest blockbusters, instead they would often show film festivals, old movie classics, and native productions. Every movie premiere was an occasion for big crowds to gather in front of a theatre and patiently wait in line to purchase a ticket. The line very quickly would become the best social gathering, people chatting about the upcoming film, books, theatre, and of course politics. Those places disappeared with the onslaught of multiplexes, and the buildings became home to discount stores. The exhibition pays homage to those places, among them movie theatre Warszawa and many others, which formed the city's identity in the communist times.
