Although presently home to the seat of Lower Saxony parliament, his palace near the Old Town existed as the home of Hanover’s kings. What remains today is mainly the neo-classical portico, built between 1817-1842 by Architect Georg Ludwig Laves. In 1701, this was the location where the Earl of Macclesfield gave Electress Sophia, the Deed of the Act of Succession, which declared her and her successors heirs to the English Crown.
