This quaint alpine town north of Garmisch-Partenkirchen on the A95 can be reached in about 1 hour by car or train (€13). The mountains aren’t high here (the highest lift is 680m), but the added bonus here is the proximity to Ludwig II’s fairytale palace Linderhof.
