Nuremberg's Imperial Castle looms large over the city and is well worth struggling up the hill to have a look around. One of the most important imperial palaces of the Middle Ages, between the 11th and 16th centuries every single emperor of the Holy Roman Empire made a point of visiting it. Wonderfully preserved visitors can see much of the original interior include the famous Romanesque double chapel as well as a large collection of authentic weapons and other military paraphernalia. Both the Knights' Hall and the Imperial Hall are available for private hire for special functions.
