12 Oct 2017

Want to take a little bit of Joburg home with you? Here's our pick of some must-have items.

1. LOVE JOZI
Long before anyone felt the love for Johannesburg, graphic designer Bradley Kirshenbaum dreamed up Love Jozi, a T-shirt brand celebrating the city’s uniqueness and iconic skyline in myriad products, including a signature key rack. Accept no substitutes for this authentic brand.
You can find Love Jozi at 44 Stanley in Milpark and online at www.lovejozi.co.za.

2. IWASSHOT IN JOBURG :)
Joburg’s gritty streets catch the camera lens of I WasShot in Joburg, an innovative photography collective of young men from Hillbrow’s Twilight Shelter. Their photos decorate walls and notebooks. We also love their felt cushions, adorned with essential vocabulary.
Find them at Arts on Main in Maboneng (264 Fox Street) and at Rosebank Mall.

3. MAXHOSA BY LADUMA
From being featured in Italian Vogue to winning 'the most beautiful object in South Africa’ title at this year's premier South African design gathering, this South African designed knitwear brand is making waves globally. Founded in 2010 by Laduma Ngxokolo, the range is inspired by manhood rituals of the South African Xhosa people, and Ngxokolo uses patterns, beadwork and symbolism from this rich culture in his modern contemporary designs in show stopping clothing designs for him and her.
You can find Maxhosa at Work Shop New Town in Newtown.

10. Ardmore Design
Fee Halsted set up Ardmore Farm in the late 1980s in rural Kwazulu-Natal. There she brought together Western ce- ramics techniques with African art, working with talented young artists to create mesmerising pieces, rich in colour and whimsy, delicately hand-painted, their witty designs inspired by the natural environment and local folkloric traditions. These pieces are now modern-day collectables. Ardmore Design translates the intricate hand-painted ceramic motifs into homeware fabrics and accessories.
