share
Described as ‘music for today – rooted in our rich past’ this music festival in the Cradle of Humankind stars local artists whose sounds are influenced by traditional African instruments and beats. Using an array of traditional and contemporary instruments and mixing genres and themes, these artists present an exciting new way of looking at contemporary African music bringing together the broadest range of historic African sounds including Marabi (township music), Mbaqanga (traditional Zulu), Isicathamiya (Zulu a capella), sakkie sakkie (Afrikaner music), Goema (Cape jazz), Kwela (pennywhistle-based street jive), Xhosa Folk and even African meditation. Performers on the lineup include guitarist Bongeziwe Mabandla, traditional instrumentalist and singer Pops Mohamed and Soweto's alternative African fusion collective The Urban Village.

In addition to the music, the festival also includes an Epicurean Emporium where boutique wines and gourmet foods are on sale throughout the day, plus there's the opportunity to view the impressive sculpture exhibition which formed part of this year's Winter Sculpture Fair.

Gates open at 10:00, music starts at 11:00.
