Braamfontein’s independent bookstore African Flavour Books presents the African Flavour Festival, a month-long literary festival in honour of Africa Month with a bumper programme of events that include everything from book launches and authors’ talks to live music performances and poetry sessions. Events take place every weekend from Thursday to Saturday and tickets can be booked via webtickets.

Highlights of the African Flavour Festival include:

African Flavour Market. Takes place from 18:00 as part of First Thursdays Braamfontein
10.05 An Evening with playwright and performance poet Lesego Rampolokeng and jazz musician Tumi Mogorosi. From 18:00. Tickets R30.
11.05 Documentary screening – Word Down the Line with panel discussion led by author, playwright and musician Bobby Rodwell. Starts at 18:00. Tickets R20.
25.05 Africa Day poetry celebration. From 18:00-21:00. Tickets TBA.
26.05 Book Launch: Born For Greatness, Biography of Frank Leepa. Starts at 16:00. Entrance is free.
