Tucked into the entrance of the Sandton Sun Hotel, you'll find a door that leads to Alice & Fifth, a supper club offering live performances that opens into a cigar bar and an adjoining nightclub, plus of course there's a VIP section. The name comes from its location on the corner of Alice Lane and Fifth Streets in the heart of Joburg's financial capital, Sandton Central. 

The knockout interiors are by designer Tristan Plessis who also designed the multi-million rand refurbishment of The Bull Run steakhouse nearby. His trademark style is sexy luxe and Alice & Fifth is a labyrinthine underground masterpiece of leather and velvet upholstery, dark wood, rich brass fittings and other opulent touches. The theme of decadence is well expressed here. 

Book for dinner and the Playhouse entertainment experience (Thursdays through Saturdays), and if you only plan to party arrive closer to midnight when the nightclub starts to fill. A recent addition is Tuesday night comedy and a Wednesday jazz session. Note chic attire is a prerequisite for entry. 

Alice & Fifth is also open for lunches. The menu showcases contemporary African cuisine and there's a fine selection of cocktails.
