And we heard the colours sound | Snapshot
Thursday Feb 1 - Saturday Feb 24
3 Hetty Ave, Fairland
A group exhibition of abstract works, And we heard the colours sound, takes the notion that sound can be represented in abstract art and features works that were made in reaction to sounds. Artists exhibited include self-taught award-winning accountant-turned-artist Bev Butkow and Sophia van Wyk whose works combine second-hand furniture with biomorphic forms.
Snapshot is a retrospective of Johann van der Schijff’s artistic journey over the last decade, which draws particularly on his experiences of growing up in apartheid and post-apartheid South Africa. Questioning the violent nature of contemporary South African society, van der Schijff invites his viewers to interact with his challenging sculptures, made from repurposed punching bags, even though these interactions perpetuate the very same violence which he seeks to confront.
Opening event Thu Feb 3 at 18:00.
