Bambo Sibiya - Slow Down Tiger
Tuesday Sep 15 - Saturday Oct 3
6 Jellicoe Ave, Rosebank
His latest collection of works, Slow Down Tiger, was created during lockdown and is a powerful reaction to the confusing and unsettling experiences that society has gone through during this pandemic in which we still find ourselves. The struggles of the most vulnerable in society have been strikingly exposed during lockdown and the ongoing challenges of racism, gender-based violence, absentee fathers, global warming, unemployment and the pressure put on men to repress their emotions, has been thrown into a new light due to the pandemic that has rampaged across the country.
In this new exhibition Sibiya invites the viewer to pause, to slow down tiger, and take consideration of the fundamental shifts in society that have taken place during 2020. To consider afresh and listen to the change in voices and perspective caused by our adjustment to the 'new normal' and to take stock of the humanity and barbarity that we have witnessed and consider more closely what should be our new way forward.
The gallery is now fully open to the public, no prior booking is required but you must wear a mask. The gallery is open 09-:00-17.30, Sat 09:00-13:00, closed Sun.
