Celebrated composer and pianist Paul Hanmer, together with guitarist Louis Mhlanga perform two live improvised scores for classic silent films at The Bioscope independent cinema as part of the Johannesburg International Mozart Festival. The annual Cinema Improvisando silent movie night is a unique cinema experience that puts a fresh spin on the golden age of silent movies. Advanced booking is highly recommended.

The first day of the live score performances on Wednesday January 29 features three French short films namely, La Petite Marchande d’Allumettes by Jean Renoir (1928), Une Histoire d’Eau by Jean-Luc Godard and François Truffaut (1958) and L’Ecole des Facteurs by Jacques Tati (1947).

The second performance on Thu January 30 features the widely acclaimed 1928 black and white silent film The Crowd by King Vidor, one of the first 25 historic films to be selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry.
