Fabulous
Thursday Oct 26 - Saturday Nov 25
11 Chester Rd, Parkwood
Among the highlights is Amelia’s Journey, a photography series by Moira MacMurray. Amelia’s Journey traces the intriguing life of a second-hand 1947 Morris 10 car that MacMurray bought in 1983 via a collection of reconstructed vintage black-and-white photos extracted from a roll of film found under the car’s mat. Of the entire roll, only eight photos survived and they reveal the car (fondly named Amelia)'s, fascinating journey from England to South Africa and eventually to its current owner the artist MacMurray.
Among the other interesting artists showcased in Fabulous are Ingrid Stevens whose artworks explore decoration through history and are informed by her previous careers as a ceramist and art historian, and Marna Schoeman whose illustrations of the Afrikamasutra (an Afrikaans translation of the Sanskrit masterpiece) achieved much notoriety and helped her win the Hidding Curie Award for publishing excellence.
Opening event with talk by art historian Gordon Froud Thu Oct 26 at 18:30.
