Joburg Shopping - Fashion boutique shopping at 44 Stanley

09 Oct 2017

From couture dresses to everyday streetwear Joburg’s original urban precinct, 44 Stanley, has become the destination for unique fashion boutiques and local design labels.

Stop in at Black Coffee home to the iconic South African design label headed by Jacques van der Watt. The label recently presented their smart new gender neutral range, made up of oversized and nonconformist shapes that are structured by the wearer. The Black Coffee store also incorporates Love Jozi, the T-shirt and home accessories company whose unique designs have become must-have items for locals and Joburg visitors.

A few doors down you’ll find Pichulik’s flagship Joburg store. On sale at the store are Pichulik's signature bold accessories line, plus exclusive fashion collections that are not available online. The Threads Project next door is a collaborative showcase for uniquely South African and authentic fashion, lifestyle and art pieces made by a range of local designers. Around the corner, Hse of Bespoke by Waseefa Hutton provides classic, elegant women's clothing as well as innovative hair wraps and clutches.

Lucky Fish is known for its beautiful luxury kaftans and finely beaded items in bright colours. Lunar remains the go-to for pared-down luxury and exquisite custom-made bridal wear, while Wizards Vintage is always an exciting stop to find unexpected pre-worn treasures that have been carefully curated by fashion impresario Annabelle Desfontaines.

Guillotine by Lisa Jaffe offers her own range of chic, innovative and well-cut womenswear as well as the L’MAD range of silk and cashmere scarves in collaboration with top South African fine artists. At Dr Pachanga across the way you’ll find the quirkiest vintage fashion for men and women. Think large floral print voluminous maxi and midi skirts, velvet culottes, corduroy jumpsuits and a small but well-chosen collection of vintage jeans and jumpers.

In a pared-down space behind the Stanley Beer Yard is Odrin for men, the go-to store for the highest quality essential basics with own-label premium shirts and cool jeans sitting alongside smarter well-sourced classics. If custom-made is how you like your clothing Five8ths offers a made-to measure service using high-quality fabrics and traditional shirt-making techniques. Row G takes suiting to the next level with bespoke tailoring in a sumptuous studio space just behind 44 Stanley.

For the perfect wallet, tablet case or belt head to Colony Design. Fusing authentic, handmade styling with classic lines Colony’s leatherware is classic, with an artfully honed aesthetic. They also sell beautiful leather aprons as worn by Jan Bekker at Sirkel jewellers, who also have a boutique in 44 Stanley.
