Contemporary art comes to Midrand! The latest contemporary art exhibition hosted at the Riboville Boutique Hotel in Waterfall is a solo exhibition by Joburg-based artist Fatima Moosa. In conjunction with the exhibition the Riboville also hosts an evening with the artist on Thu May 20 from 18:00.

Titled Beneath My Skin, this new body of work explores the artist’s personal experiences and reflections of living through the Covid 19 pandemic. A very philosophical, introspective and spiritual person, Moosa believes that pressure and intensity, such as that which we have all felt at some point during the pandemic, has provided an opportunity for spiritual growth.

As she explains "the past year has been one of the most impactful I’ve experienced, it has been a time of deep reflection, going deep within and holding up a mirror to every part of my being, even when I didn’t want to. Through this intense questioning, I found myself turning to my faith, which felt like the only sure thing in a world where I couldn’t tell which way is up. The only way to describe the intensity of enduring inner turmoil and at the same time discovering peace and patience during that endurance is the intensity of heat, and how that heat had the ability to transform my being". 

In her abstract works, Moosa expresses her thoughts on this process of introspection, growth and renewal promoted by the pressures of the pandemic by experimenting with burning, melting and then cooling different materials, such as oils, fabrics, pigments and beeswax, and then layering them up in her tactile works.

The exhibition is on display daily in the hotel's lobby gallery The Riboville Collection and all works are for sale.
